Dr. Christian Berthold appointed Managing Director of Kühne Foundation

Dr. Christian Berthold is set to become the new Managing Director of the Kühne Foundation on 1 May 2018. The Foundation, founded by the Kühne Family in 1976, has its headquarters in Schindellegi, Switzerland. Berthold will remain principal shareholder of CHE Consult GmbH, but will resign from his position as Managing Director.

Christian Berthold headed the Department of Philosophy at the University of Münster as Managing Director until the end of the 1990s, before joining the CHE Centre for Higher Education think tank in Gütersloh. In 2001, he was appointed Managing Director and later became partner of CHE Consult GmbH, a spin-off from CHE. In this role, he managed projects that involved establishing and developing strategies for higher education institutions and shaping their profiles. He provided consultation to university managements, ministries and local stakeholders on the strategic direction and organisational development of higher education.

Now he will be able to contribute his wealth of experience in science-oriented consultation and the facilitation of change and development processes to the work of the Kühne  Foundation. The mission of the Kühne Foundation, which is involved in operational activities, is to promote training, further education, research and science in the fields of logistics and transport. The Kühne Foundation also supports projects in medical, cultural and humanitarian areas.

The partners of CHE Consult are drawing up a succession management plan, in which the second managing partner, Dr. Mathias Falkenstein, is actively involved.
