Bernd Klöver to become new Managing Director of CHE Consult

Bernd Klöver is set to become the new Managing Director of CHE Consult on 1 May 2018. In 1992, Klöver was appointed legal counsel and advisor to the Chancellor of the University of Rostock, setting the foundation for a career in academic governance that now spans over 20 years. He was then engaged for several years as Chancellor of the Hochschule Wismar - University of Applied Sciences, Technology, Business and Design, followed by a stint as Senator in Greifswald. Klöver was Chief Financial Officer of Hamburg University of Applied Sciences between 2005 and 2015, acting as the Spokesperson for University Chancellors in Germany from 2010 to 2015.

Bernd Klöver is taking over the management from Dr. Christian Berthold, who is leaving CHE Consult to join the Kühne Foundation in Schindellegi, Switzerland, as Managing Director. Berthold has led CHE Consult ever since it was established as a spin-off from the non-profit CHE Centre for Higher Education in 2001. Under his leadership, CHE Consult has become firmly established as a specialised research and higher education consultancy in Germany, also expanding its areas of activity on the international arena. Christian Berthold will remain principal shareholder of CHE Consult.

“I am delighted that Bernd Klöver has decided to join CHE Consult,” stated Berthold. “He is a proven expert in academic governance and has already gained experience as managing director in various areas.” In addition to performing the role of Managing Director, Bernd Klöver will also play an active role as consultant at CHE Consult, acting as Senior Project Manager.

“I see it as an opportunity to expand on my freelance consulting activities, which began in 2015, as part of a larger team,” stated Klöver. “I intend to incorporate my expertise and network into strategic and organisational development activities at CHE Consult.”
